Abstract | "The ascendancy of political conservatives, particularly Christian fundamentalists, profoundly altered the U. S. political and public policy landscape. 'For god and country' presents a historical policy analysis of conservative ideology and its influences upon U. S. federal school policies during the first administration of President Ronald Reagan (1981-1984). By focusing upon the first Reagan administration, the author teases out the various conservative social agendas regarding U. S. children and how one specific Presidential election strategy has shaped federal education policy". One chapter describes " the decision-making structure within the Reagan White House ", two others " chronicle the events and policies affecting federal public schooling policy, and the larger context in which they occurred during the first term".
