| Abstract | The higher education system of Armenia has undergone signi-ficant changes since the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991. The article reviews main trends and challenges in this transformation process. It is shown that the political and socio-economic changes in Armenia had an ambiguous impact on the higher education system: They created a demand for reforms and in parallel a dif¬ficult environment for the implementation of policy measures. Despite these internal tensions, the focus on the Bologna Process and EHEA emerged as a remarkably stable vector of higher education policy and tool for EU approximation. A recent change of power in 2018 created a window of opportunity for further reform, but signi¬ficant challenges lie ahead. (HRK / Abstract übernommen). |
