Abstract | This dissertation project investigates how occupational contexts influence individual occupational decisions and subsequent employment trajectories. It examines how the overall structure of occupations within the local context and the internal structure of different types of occupations affect gendered occupational choices and its consequences. All three subprojects of this cumulative dissertation focus on the relevance of occupational opportunity structures (within and between occupations). The overall research question is: In how far do opportunity structures for 1) the access to and 2) employment trajectories in gendered occupations affect occupational gender segregation and its consequences?
