| Abstract | The distinction between "translation" and "translating", on which the paper is based, focuses on the dynamic and procedural aspects of translation exercises and processes rather than the finished product, i.e. the translation. The processes of translating, according to the author, have a considerable influence on foreign language learning at all levels, especially on the development of subjective intercultural "third spaces", and should therefore not be underestimated as they offer the interested foreign language learner the opportunity to achieve intercultural competence even within the rather narrow confines of the foreign language classroom.
