Abstract | Generally, cooperation has the merit of encouraging people to help each others within a group. It can promote the development of prosocial and altruistic behaviours. These points of view are tackled in a school context where cooperative learning activities are implemented through group teaching strategies. The students' age group, their being familiar with cooperation or not, the relations between help requests and responses, the type of school activities, the social status of the students in the class, their being friends or not, are all elements capable of influencing their giving mutual help and so encouraging school learning or not. Finally, groups formed on the basis of functional interdependency could get an interaction bonus that can stimulate interindividual contacts, mutual relations between students, therefore completely setting the stage for mutual help.
