Phosphates are a rarely recognized topic in chemistry education, although phosphate is essential to our lives. The European Commission classified phosphate rock as a critical raw material, indicating its economic importance and potential supply risk. Under this premise, a non-formal learning environment focusing the recovery of phosphate from sewage sludge and sewage sludge ash was developed. For this purpose, student-oriented experiments were developed dealing with recycling-processes that are currently under implementation in environmental technology. Additionally, a digital learning environment was created that allows the integration of a societal-geographic perspective to allow a holistic teaching approach for the topic in schools and non-formal education. |
