AbstractSexual health is an essential part of human life. The promotion of and education about this public health topic is an important part in the area of health education and during medical training. The role of experts for counselling and providing information on sexual health is obvious. However, compared to other topics, teaching this sensitive topic in universities holds a special position. Traditions as well as political, cultural and social factors influence sexuality, resulting in different attitudes and barriers towards the teaching of this subject, which should be mirrored in the selection of contents and teaching and learning methods. In particular, the training of future teachers (public health experts and physicians) needs a special pedagogic-educational approach. In medicine and public health curricula, however, sexual health is rarely integrated, and specific frameworks on how to teach this highly sensitive topic are lacking. The aim of our Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) in-progress project is to explore some basics of sensitive teaching approaches in order to create instructor guidelines to support lecturers in medicine and public health modules. A qualitative evaluation study with medical and health sciences students of two universities will be conducted to explore their perceptions of good teaching methods of two sexual health modules; participating institutions are the University of Lübeck and the University of Applied Sciences in Hamburg. CONTENTS: 1 Background (128). - 2 Development of the Research Question (131). - 3 First Ideas and Considerations on a Study Design (133). - 3.1 Development of the Modules (133). - 3.2 Methodology (134). - 3.3 Work Stages and Time Frame (136).
