Abstract	This article introduces a joint Sino-German study programme of the Lübeck University of Applied Sciences (TH Lübeck) and the East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST) in Shanghai and outlines the framework conditions for teaching a course on computer programming at the university in Shanghai. The intended teaching goals are presented as well as the implementation of the teaching methods in the specific teaching context. Building rapport and being empathetic, responding to problems of language comprehension and communicating teaching and learning goals are extremely important for achieving subject-specific goals.
