Abstract	From a media attendance or usage point of view, the article not only focuses on the antecedents of problematic SNS use, but aspires to explain the use of SNS among adolescents in general by following a Social Cognitive Theory (SCT) perspective. We integrate adolescents' cognitive developments as exemplified in related media literacy research into this SCT perspective. In a first sample of N = 452 adolescents we develop our measures. In the second sample of 7V = 386 adolescents we empirically test our proposed model. Findings confirm our assumptions as deficient self-regulation and habit strength fester SNS use and higher levels of conscious-ness of mediality enable a more regulated and controlled use of SNS.
