Abstract | The objective of this dissertation was to determine and analyze the needs of the international students of the subject DaF of the TUB regarding the German scientific language as well as to develop a concept to promote the acquisition of the scientific language in form of an online learning management system, which is aligned with the language needs of the international students of the subject DaF of the TUB. The needs analysis was defined as the central research method. A triangulation of the data collection methods and of the data sources was used with the purpose of determination of the needs. The methods utilized for the assessment of data were the interview and the document analysis. The triangulation of the data sources refers to international students of the subject DaF of TUB, former students, teachers and as well to documents and written essays of international students. During the analysis of the interviews, the documents and the written essays of students was possible to observe that the international students have difficulties with the use of the scientific language in the academic context. Moreover, the analysis shows that the field of problems of the investigated group correlates with different areas of the scientific language and scientific writing respectively. Summarizing, the assessed difficulties can be divided into four groups, namely the scientific style, the formal demands of scientific papers, the textual requirements of scientific papers and the techniques of scientific writing. Finally, the study shows which are the needs in the German scientific language of international students of the subject DaF of TUB. A concept in form of an online learning management system to promote the German scientific language for academic purposes was developed based on the needs assessed. This concept tries to provide to the international students of the subject DaF of TUB an additional possibility of acquisition of the German scientific language in the academic context. Therefore supporting them during the writing of scientific papers in their studies. (Orig.). |
