| Abstract | The article presents a historical review of the process of establishment and development of the Faculty of Physical Education. In October 1946 the Faculty of Physical Education was opened in Leningrad Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia. In the early years teachers with the right of teaching of physical Education, Anatomy and Physiology were trained on the faculty. In different years well-known scientists in the field of physical culture and sport and sport education worked at the faculty including B.A. Ashmarin, V.A. Bulkin, S.I. Gal'perin, M.L. Zhuravin, E.P. llyin, A.I. Kuznetsov, N.K. Men'shikov, A.A. Nesterov, B.A. Petrov, A.Ya. Shekhtel', S.V. Yananis and many others. Since foundation Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia Faculty of Physical Education was headed by scientists, recognized experts in the field of physical culture and sport, organizers of the sport movement: E.V. Vershinsky, E.P. Zhuravlev, S.V. Yananis, M.S. Sokolov. V. Ivanov, L.F. Egupov, N.I. Maksimova, B.A. Petrov, O.I. Aleksandrov, V.A. Bulkln, N.N. Khitrov. M.L. Zhuravin. Over the years the faculty has become the leading educational and research division and held leading positions among the related departments of the Russian Federation. In 2015, the department was transformed into Institute of Physical Culture and Sport. (Autor). |
