Beliefs), während soziale Determinanten (u. a. So geht z. Research on personal determinants of teachers´ professional practice is still limited. Quantitative research on teachers regularly puts emphasis on teacher beliefs while social determinants are rarely investigated. However, qualitative studies frequently highlight the importance of teachers´ social background characteristics for their professional practice. By taking a closer look at the cooperation and communication of teachers with parents, we investigate how teachers´ practice is shaped by different features of their professional career and their habitus and cultural practices. We use data from a questionnaire study (Project EDUCARE) with n=124 elementary school teachers. The results show that teachers who have more years on the job are more likely to cooperate with parents than their less experienced colleagues. Also, teachers who show a sturdy ethos of excellence and expect parents to take part in their children´s education maintain stronger ties to parents than teachers who are less prone to upper-middle class culture. The article closes with a plea for the inclusion of social determinants into future research on teachers. |
