| Abstract | Trying to balance medium- and elite-level sporting activity and education is complicated if traditional terms of evaluation are adopted. The student athlete needs planning, time frames and methods that have to cater to both sporting and educational commitments. Moving beyond the duality of sport and school/university, often a cause of sporting dropout, and favouring a coexistence of the two ambits, mutually respecting the independence of the two areas, may lead to an innovative schooling model, in keeping with European directives regarding the education of young athletes. Taking these considerations as a starting point, the article then goes on to analyse the question systemically, following a model which, taking into due account the existing context of the athlete's education and post-career prospects at both a national and international level, attempts to come up with an effective solution based not so much on the planning of a specific curriculum as on the athlete's management along an educational path. Part one of the article focuses on the current context in the sphere of school/university education at both a national and international level, also considering the objectives of Europe 2020 and the importance that the sporting world attaches to the guidelines and recommendations of UE policies. Verf.-Referat. Conciliare pratica sportiva di medio e alto livello e percorso formativo riesce complicato se si adottano i tradizionali schemi di giudizio. L'atleta, coinvolto in un percorso di studi, ha necessità di programmazione, tempi e metodologie che devono soddisfare sia gli impegni sportivi che quelli formativi. Superare la dicotomia tra sport e scuola/ università, spesso concausa di abbandono precoce dell'attività sportiva e favorire invece la convivenza tra i due ambiti, nel rispetto reciproco della propria autonomia, può portare alla realizzazione di un modello di scuola innovativo e soprattutto in linea con le direttive in campo europeo per la formazione degli atleti. Partendo da tali condizioni al contorno, si è quindi analizzata tale problematica da un punto di vista sistemico, seguendo un modello che, prendendo atto della realtà di contesto attuale per quanto riguarda il campo della formazione degli atleti e delle prospettive post-carriera sia in campo nazionale che internazionale, provasse ad individuare un'ipotesi di soluzione efficace e centrata non tanto sugli aspetti di progettazione curricolare di uno specifico piano di studi, quanto invece sulla gestione dell'atleta all'interno del percorso formativo. In questa prima parte, il focus del lavoro è centrato sul contesto attuale nel campo della formazione scolastica/ universitaria sia in ambito nazionale che internazionale, con uno sguardo proiettato agli obiettivi di Europa 2020 e all'importanza che l'ambito dello sport riveste nelle linee di indirizzo e di sviluppo delle politiche dell'Unione Europea.
