The Fachportal Pädagogik (German Education Portal) is your central access point to professional educational information [in Germany]. Its services mainly address professionals in educational research and practice, and those interested in educational science.

Professional databases providing specific information, and comprehensive collations of information concerning various aspects of educational information, constitute the core of the information system.

These are typical questions you can refer to the German Education Portal:

• What kind of scientific educational literature is available for my topic?
• Where, and how, can the literature be accessed?
• What kinds of institution can be found in the area of education?
• Who is researching in what areas of education?

Our users can access resources that are crucial to the context of professional educational research, i.e. details describing literature (bibliographical meta data), information on the availability of the referred titles, professional information concerning persons, institutions, projects etc.

Furthermore, the Fachportal provides an entry point to the titles, depending on their availability (by means of commercial providers, i.e. document delivery services, pay-per-view systems, or, where possible, in terms of a free electronic download of full texts).

The following modules are integrated into the German Education Portal:

• the German Education Index (subject to subscription)
• the Document server pedocs (free of charge)
• Metasearch across a large number of pedagogical databases (mostly free of charge)
• the "Subject Directory" - a service providing systematic contextual scholarly information (free of charge)

These are the individual features the Education Portal includes in its "One-Stop-Shop":

• academically relevant research for printed and electronic literature,
• search queries pertaining to the Electronic Journals Library (EZB) via the German Education Index,
• direct access to free electronic full texts,
• access to payable publications, via pay-per-view offerings and document delivery services,
• a parallel search across educational databases as to literature, online resources, facts, media catalogues, educational history, international aspects,
• a search for Subject Directory information in the area of educational science - persons, institutions, projects, etc. - according to a system of subdisciplines,
• link tips regarding further pertinent scientific information,
• a message board including news and relevant dates,
• a cross-disciplinary search in education, social science and psychology databases via the portal infoconnex,
• an opportunity to announce the bibliographical data of your printed publication or the opportunity to launch your electronic publication on the document server pedocs
• a joint pool of data with the German Education Server.

The Fachportal is the educational science partner within the framework of the cross-disciplinary portal to scientific information, vascoda. Professional databases providing specific information, and comprehensive collations of information concerning various aspects of educational information constitute the core of the information system. It is provided by the German Institute for International Educational Research, and its construction and development are supported by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, within the framework of the virtual libraries programme. The Fachportal has been online since August 2005. From the beginning on, a focal point of its services, has been the FIS Bildung database, which has been regularly enhanced and improved by the Information Center for Education since 1994.
