| Abstract | This article provides an overview of and rationale for the use of authority in school libraries--from both an historical and current/future perspective. First, the importance of consistent, meaningful authority term context and form is discussed. Then, the exciting, yet challenging, role of authority in today's information world is discussed--using the role of authority in tagging and social networks as a foundation for analysis and debate. A list of some of the information retrieval/evaluation/delivery tasks found in Facebook that could be classified as both Web-based authority and Library 2.0 authority-exchange features is presented.
