Abstract | Department of Defense schools, equivalent to the 23rd largest school district in the country, serve military families on bases here and abroad. Despite the fact that only 40 percent of the students finish the academic year in the same school where they started, 80 percent of the graduates go on to college and minority students perform better that their civilian peers.
