AbstractThe drive to foster an entrepreneurship culture in the higher education (HE) system is one of the ongoing proposals in place for dealing with the daunting challenges of unemployment in Nigeria. It is now a policy of the National Universities Commission (NUC) to encourage Nigerian universities to provide entrepreneurship training for undergraduates so that they can be self-employed after graduation. Fostering an entrepreneurship culture helps would be entrepreneurs to recognize and seize opportunities; convert opportunities into workable/marketable ideas; add value through time, effort, money or skills and assume the risks of the competitive marketplace. This paper argues that fostering an entrepreneurship culture in HE will provide a mix of experiential learning, skill building and most importantly, mindset shift. The earlier and more widespread the exposure to entrepreneurship training and innovation, the more likely it is that students will consider entrepreneurial careers at some point in the future, despite the presence of challenges. This paper provides a theoretical framework for linking entrepreneurship and the prospects for creating job opportunities. (As Provided).
