Abstract | An empirical study of 318 elementary and secondary school teachers and 395 registered nurses examines the relationship between personal and role-related factors and commitment to the employing organization. Results of multivariate tests indicated that levels of tension and number of years experience are the most important variables explaining commitment and also that, to a lesser degree, dissatisfaction and sex are related.
