AbstractJob readiness programs assist individuals with gaining the necessary information to obtain and keep employment. The research study was an investigation of the reasons for the low enrollment and low success rate for the Midlands Fatherhood Coalition Job Boot Camp program in Richland County SC. With the completion of the study the researcher gained insight into job readiness programs and how to assist individuals via learning style preferences. This research was conducted utilizing a qualitative case study methodology with emphasis on one on one interviews with first-hand references from past and current participants as well as instructors of the job readiness program. Participants that successfully or unsuccessfully completed, and those who never enrolled or did not show on the first day of Job Boot Camp were interviewed about their personal experiences with the Job Boot Camp program. The majority of the successful completers of the program had a learning style preference of Kinesthetics learning with a secondary of Visual learning. The unsuccessful completers and never enrolled participants did not have this learning style or secondary style. The instructors of the Job Boot Camp program had the same learning style preference as the successful completers of the Job Boot Camp program. 50% of the successful completers were mandated to attend the program and the other 50% enrolled voluntarily. 100% of the unsuccessful completers were mandated to attend the Job Boot Camp. From the research obtained from the study, there should be more emphasis placed on individuals that are mandated to attend the job readiness program. Future recommendations include the use of motivational interviewing as a tactic to keep the individuals engaged in a behavioral change.
