AbstractThe educational experiences of Hispanic students are influenced by the collectivist nature of the Hispanic culture as outlined in Hofstede's (1980) research. In the Hispanic culture, it is common for women to feel uncomfortable and uncertain about taking risks. Males tend to have more dominant values that transpire in assertive and aggressive behaviors whereas females are more sympathetic, nurturing, and work more cooperatively with others (Hofstede, 1980). Although Hispanics highly value education, multiple obstacles prevent their successful advancement within the system (Murphy, Guzman, & Torres, 2014). This study researched Hispanic students' success in higher education, investigating if machismo had an influence on their educational attainment. A multivariate analysis of variance helped to uncover the possible cultural influence on Hispanic males' and females' educational journey and the impact father's influence, mother's influence, external influence, and self-perception on Hispanic students' higher education journey. Based on the findings of this study, the researcher gained a better understanding of Hispanic male and female students' experiences with machismo. However, the results indicate that machismo did not have an impact on students' future or higher education.
