AbstractBased on conclusions from more than 30 years of research linking parental involvement and higher student achievement, this booklet offers 106 ways parents and others can become more involved in children's education. The ideas are grouped according to the following categories: (1) learning begins at home; (2) making sure your child starts school ready to learn; (3) making family time learning time; (4) using the newspaper for better learning; (5) using computers to promote learning; (6) increasing your child's self-esteem and motivation; (7) supporting your child's schoolwork; (8) working with the school; (9) promoting your family's values; (10) helping your child avoid negative peer pressure; (11) promoting good health = promoting good learning; (12) preparing your child for the world of work; (13) getting the help you need; and (14) establishing home/school/community support for learning. The booklet concludes by noting that with a little caring and creativity, parents can help children get ready for, enjoy, and stay in school, and prepare for a bright future after graduation.
