Abstract	The principles of family support are clear: building on the strengths, resources, culture, and capacity of families and communities is the best way to provide for the optimal development of children. This program self-assessment book gives family support programs specific, short-term and long-term benchmarks to help them enact the principles of family support in day-to-day practice. Using the detailed checklists provided in this tool, programs can systematically assess their own performance in any or all of 10 areas: (1) governance; (2) outreach/engaging families; (3) programs and activities; (4) parent education and child development; (5) working one-on-one with families; (6) relationships with the community; (7) center environment; (8) home visiting; (9) staff roles and capacities; and (10) monitoring and evaluation. The kit includes: 10 self-assessment booklets--one for each of the 10 areas listed above (includes order forms for additional copies); photocopy masters of information-gathering tools (parent, staff, and board questionnaires) for use in conjunction with the self-assessment booklets; a spiral-bound guide with comprehensive, step-by-step instruction for using the assessment booklets and information gathering tools; and a computer diskette, with instructions for use, to help in compiling the information gathered.
