Abstract	This handbook, written for educators (teachers, principals, central office administrators, university faculty, and area educational agency staff) offers guidelines on how to establish, maintain, and evaluate a practitioner-driven school network. Such a network is created and governed by practitioners who decide what services they want, modify the services to meet changing needs, and play key roles in network leadership. It also provides opportunities for educators and staff to form collegial partnerships across schools. Chapter 1 explains why practitioner-driven networks can help schools engage in renewal efforts. Chapter 2 discusses what decisions need to be made in getting started, why a clear focus is important, and how to establish a democratic governance process. The third chapter explores operational procedures and services that a network might offer member schools to facilitate their efforts. Ongoing issues that a network must face to maintain its effectiveness are addressed in the fourth chapter. Chapter 5 provides an example of how practitioners can be involved in the life of a network by describing the League's Action Research Consortium. The concluding chapter explains activities that can help a network evaluate its effects on member schools. The appendix contains a sample on-site visit summary. Seven figures are included. (LMI)
