Abstract	Older students (those beyond the age of 24) represented nearly 40 percent of all college and university enrollment in 1988, compared with 33 percent in 1974. Two sets of projections are suggested to show that, by 1995, the share of older students may increase somewhat, but students in the "traditional" age range (less than 25 years old) will still be in the majority. The projections examine changes since 1974 in the number of those over 24 years of age in the population and the number enrolled in higher education, and the rate at which they have enrolled in college. One set of projections is based on the assumption that enrollment rates for the major age-groups would stay constant at 1988 levels, and the other set of projections is based on the assumption that enrollment rates would continue the same trend observed over the last 7 years, with increased participation in some age groups and stagnation or decline in others. In both projections, older students continue to be a major presence in higher education, while traditional age-group students continue to be in the majority. Policy implications are discussed.
