| Abstract | The present study describes the development of a scale for the assessment of verbal aggressiveness in physical education. Two studies were conducted. In the first study, a previously developed seven-item scale, designed to assess verbal aggressiveness in sport contexts, was tested through confirmatory factor analysis. The results supported the existence of a single dimension. Nevertheless, it was revealed that modifications were needed for the scale to reach acceptable fit levels, and become appropriate for the physical education domain. In the second study, a revised eight-item scale was tested on a new sample. The results provided preliminary support for the psychometric integrity of the scale. Confirmatory factor analysis revealed adequate fit indices, whereas Cronbach's alpha indicated high internal consistency for the scale. The modified instrument is easy to adapt so that it can assess verbal aggressiveness in a variety of different contexts (e.g. physical education, sport, education). (Autor). |
