Abstract | The subject of this article has in recent years become a focal topic of discussion in most European countries: the educational policy of (nation-)states towards sociocultural minorities, both immigrant and indigenous. In the [...] article, this issue is studied using the example of Russia's educational policy for minorities throughout history, from the beginnings of the Russian state until the dissolution of the Soviet Union. [...] In part 1 of the article, Russia's policies for non-Russian minorities are reviewed from the beginning of the Russian state until the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Coverage of this broad time span is essential to make visible both historical continuities as well as changes in Russia's educational policies for minorities. In part 2, the theory of cultural transmission in minorities is summarized and applied to Russian educational policies for minorities. Part 3 summarizes the main results of the analysis. (Oirg.). |
