Abstract	This work analyse both the reform of the curriculum in the secondary school and the programme evolution of the Grammar, based on the study of the handbooks on this matter. The first important step towards the Grammar's autonomy appeared in the curriculum of 1901, when it was separated from Latin and joined to other linguistic and literary matter. Specially controversial and negative was the reform of the Callejo's Programme (1926), since it involved the removal of the Spanish language from the curriculum, even when it was restored again during the Republic of 19 31. During the Franco's government, language and literature were consolidated in the different programmes and the teachers were required to use more practical than theoretical lessons and more active methods. El trabajo analiza tanto la reforma de los planes de estudio de la enseñanza secundaria como la evolución curricular de la Gramática en base al estudio de los manuales de la materia. El primer paso sólido hacia la autonomía de la Gramática se da en el Plan de Estudios de 1901, cuando se establece la separación del latín y la unión a otras materias de carácter lingüístico y literario. La reforma del Plan Callejo (1926) fue especialmente polémica y negativa ya que conllevó la eliminación de la lengua española como materia curricular, aunque sería reinstaurada por la República en 1931. Durante el régimen franquista las materias de lengua y literatura se consolidarán en los distintos planes exigiendo en su docente más práctica que teoría y también métodos activos frente a los pasivos.
