Abstract | A children's university is not part of the institutionalized educational system and as such does not have to fulfill any clearly defined social missions or criteria. Two aspects have been criticized with regards to children's universities: poor integration of children from foreign-language and non-academic backgrounds and the event character of the programs, which is reflected by corresponding media coverage. It has to be asked: How does the children's university relate to school? And: Why could some research activity lead to more sense of reality in the debate about the children's university? Acceptingly, the author has to outline two controversial facts: the relationship of the "institution children's university" with the "institution school" and the call for secured data about the children's university.
