Abstract"As internationalisation is progressing, people in Germany and Japan have more contact - both within and between their societies - with people who were socialised in other cultures, a development which has produced new requirements also in the cultural sector. This contribution will focus an these requirements, especially for the scientific field and with regard to the interaction between people. For this purpose, two working hypotheses will be established and then tested: (1) In the field of (social) science, the importance of cross-cultural research is increasing due to internationalisation. (2) In the educational field, internationalisation is leading to a greater importance of the teaching aim to avoid or correct intolerant attitudes towards people from other cultures."
