| Abstract | "The Tandem Research Project 'Teaching human rights in Europe' is an interdisciplinary research project. This project intends to break certain discipline borders in the field of human rights research and stay especially focused on the time frame of the United Nations' Decade of Human Rights Education (1995-2004). The first goal of the research work is to outline and analyse Human Rights Education (HRE) Programmes during the UN-Decade of HRE, focusing on minority groups and issues. The second aim is to identify governmental and nongovernmental actors in the field of HRE, while the third aim is to examine how the development of the self-identification and empowerment of minority groups have been informed by the HRE programmes. The research is conducted in six European countries. These countries include Armenia, Spain, Germany, Slovakia, Finland and Estonia. Until now, the research has concentrated on creation of country profiles, including as well institutional analyses, as inquiries on national minority groups in each country and studies on the international legal frameworks and HRE-programmes. One of the near-future challenges now is to find a common level of human rights analysis for all six countries." (excerpt).
