Abstract	The contributions compiled in this volume resulted from a "project of co-operation between the Center for European Integration Studies and the Hermann and Marianne Straniak Foundation [the intention of which was] to contribute to the intercultural philosophical dialogue between the West and East Asia. ... This project of co-operation... makes an attempt to... avoid a one-sided hermeneutic analysis. It thus goes beyond the usual way of scientific cooperation by carrying out any comprehensive clarification in a dialogical way. Personalities of different cultural background analyse and discuss the most relevant and controversial issues concerning human dignity, cultures and violence in this intercultural dialogue in both a historical and a systematic nature. Each pair of authors is commentating on the reflections of the other partner, thus bringing further insights and reflections to the discussion of the specific issue on which each author had been invited to contemplate."
