Abstract	"Belarus, Moldova, Russia and Ukraine inherited a fairly well-developed, mature educational system from the Soviet Union. Most school age children had access to formal education and literacy was almost universal. [...] Despite generally high levels of educational attainment, transition exposed weaknesses in the system. The significant changes in the policies and the economy of Eastern Europe over the last ten years have done a major impact on educational access, attainment, and achievement. The essence of the new model of education is decentralization and democratization of administration of education, of diversification of educational plans and curriculum content. [...] Curriculum development is an essential component of educational reform and quality improvement. [...] The general objective of the seminar was to contribute to capacity building in the field of curriculum development in Belarus, Moldova, Russia and Ukraine through the exchange of information and the sharing of experiences on national processes of curriculum review and reform. The specific objectives of the seminar were the following: 1. To identify common and specific challenges, 2. to develop a shared vision and 3. to explore the relevance of strengthening regional networking and cooperation mechanisms." This publication documents the papers held (mainly in Russian) at the conference. A summarizing article in English "identifies commonalities and differences in curricular responses to global, regional and national processes of change in the four countries." (DIPF/Orig./Kr.).
