| Abstract | The author started by remarking on the growing complexity and diversity of the European Union which highlights the fact that complexity and diversity have become a factor in every social interaction. He points out that the social professions have a very special mandate in relation to diversity which traditionally was framed for them as the problem of exclusion and inclusion. A national agenda has frequently confined practitioners to seeking individualised and technical solutions to the task of integrating marginalised groups of people. European processes and structures have an impact on larger and larger areas of people's lives. This is illustrated from three perspectives: 1) Europe and economic dictates; 2) Europe and ideological changes; 3) Europe and methodological changes. (DIPF/ orig.). |
