Abstract	This article presents links between the disintegration of the Soviet Union and the teaching of philosophy. The authors analyze three aspects of the social situation and the philosophy of life that have arisen on the territory of the former USSR and which determine further perspectives of educational policies in these countries. The first aspect is the disintegration of social consciousness and the search for national priorities. The second aspect is the rejection of the formerly recognized authorities, the appearance of a vacuum as regards ' Weltanschauung', and the necessity to fill it. The third aspect is a significant technocratism dominating the social consciousness and the whole system of public education. It follows from the analysis of the first aspect that Russia is the only independent state where we can talk about a distinct strategy of teaching philosophy. The necessity of philosophy which is of high quality and not traditional in form and content can be inferred from the analysis of the second aspect. The third aspect will demand many more efforts in the humanization of philosophical education and in introducing elements of philosophy into the programmes of other educational subjects.
