Abstract | The author explores the shifting of the few boundaries that existed between the various genres of social science knowledge (such as high scholarship, political enlightenment and agitprop) in the period leading up to the Stalinization of Soviet-Russian social sciences. He shows that a proper understanding of the political and intellectual processes structuring Soviet Marxist social science should take account of the interrelationships between the various components and genres of social thought. Such an understanding is a precondition for establishing a fruitful perspective within which to assess Soviet- Russian social science research in the 1920s. (DIPF/text taken from the original). |
