Abstract | (The author) looks at the past, present and future roles of youth organisations in the Russian Federation ... . He demonstrates that under Communism, the Octobrists, Pioneers and the Komsomol were given significant state support. As a result they were not seen as the true voice of Russian youth. (He) examines the reasons why these organisations disintegrated by the early 1990s and looks at their fate since the collapse of the Union in late 1991. As he points out, the major problem is that no sizable youth organisations have yet stepped in to fill the vacuum left by the Young Communist League. The prospects for the emergence of new youth elites to replace the old communist ideologues is analysed. (DIPF/Text übernommen). |
