AbstractIn the days when the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War is widely celebrated in our country, we think it necessary to remember once again those people who were not directly involved in the struggle, but whose heroic efforts in the rear hastened the victory of our country. These certainly include many outstanding athletes and people who were actively engaged in physical culture. In April 1942, it was decided to hold football matches in besieged Leningrad. The matches that took place in 1942 at the stadium "Dynamo" went down in history. In May 1942, the Leningrad athletics championship took place in the besieged city at the V. I. Lenin stadium. These events inspired confidence and gave power to the defenders of the city, the country showed that people were not broken, life went on, and sport was not exclusion. Already in March 1943 in Sverdlovsk, the USSR Skiing Championship was held, and in August 1943 in Moscow - gymnastics competition, in summer of 1944 - the USSR Football Cup, in March 1944 in Sverdlovsk - Skiing competition. Generally the USSR Championships in 14 sports were held in 1944. Since 1945, the parades of athletes in Red Square were resumed. Sports events that took place during this period on the All-Union level were widely covered in many sources. In this paper, physical culture and sports life of students of Leningrad University in 1940-1945 was analyzed. On the basis of this study, the tendencies of development of physical culture and sport in higher education establishments in the last pre-war and early post-war years were detected. At the same time, the researchers were guided by the principle: "No one is forgotten, nothing is forgotten". Verf.-Referat.
