| Abstract | When the South African Paralympic gold medallist and national hero Oscar Pistorius shot his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in February 2013, it soon became a case that dominated the news around the world. An interesting background article on the topic of violence in South Africa was published in "Time Magazine". The newspaper article at hand was written by Justin Malala, a South African political analyst in Johannesburg. In his article Malala gives his personal view of South African society at the beginning of the 21st century. In this teaching unit the students are expected to expand their knowledge about South African society and to analyse an (argumentative) newspaper article. |
